Basildon Crematorium ‘Light up a life’ Carol Service 2014
Our Annual Carol Service took place on Friday 12th December. It was supported by Allison & The Chief Executive from St Luke’s Hospice who are one of the charities that we support throughout the year.
The service is called ‘the light up a life service’ because as well as a Carol Service it is a remembrance service for those who have lost a loved one.
The service was attended by approx. 100 people and was held by Reverend Simon, Reverend Brenda & Father Dominic who all where involved throughout the evening with Carols and Readings.
Whilst everyone was singing Little Donkey three children accompanied what you may consider to be a pony through the Chapel. He is infact a pony called Little Tom. He is the size of a large dog and was loved by everyone during the evening. He got a lot of attention including many photos. He even helped our gardener by eating the grass outside the Chapel. Unfortunately the Little Donkey was unavailable but Little Tom made a great replacement. He was kindly provided to us by one of our local FD’s T Cribb & Sons.
Reverend Brenda lead the countdown to the grand Christmas Tree Light switch on and prior to this invited families to come up and put there Light Up a Life Star with their personal message on to the tree. Everyone sang along to many traditional Carols and all were accompanied by our organist Darryl and the choir from St Margaret’s Primary School.
The evening ended with everyone singing the Calypso Carol accompanied by Reverend Simon on his guitar.
Finally the service was rounded off nicely with hot drinks, Mince Pies and a chance to catch up with each other.
